Levator scapulae (shoulder and neck pain)

<---- Pain Referral Zone

Levator scapulae originates on the transverse processes of the cervical vertebrae and inserts on the superior angle of the scapula. Trigger points in levator scapulae typically refer pain to the shoulder, neck and upper back.

Translation: "Levator scapulae" means "lifter of the shoulderblade." It attaches to the sides of the vertetbrae in your neck and goes down to attach to the upper inner corner of your shoulderblade. Its job, as the name says, is to raise your shoulderblade. Trigger points in this muscle can cause pain in your neck, shoulder and upper back. If you don't have tightness in this muscle, you must be one in ten million.
