Pregnancy, Children and Chiropractic Care

Dr. Langille giving a baby adjustment. Pregnancy is a natural change in a woman's body, so it makes sense to choose a natural prenatal care choice.  Chiropractic is a natural, safe and effective way to care for a pregnant woman. There are many changes that happen during pregnancy and throughout labor and delivery.  These changes can cause symptoms such as

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Muscle Aches
  • Headaches
  • Heartburn
  • Morning sickness
  • Carpal tunnel symptoms
  • Post partum depression

These symptoms are often due to interference (physical, chemical, or emotional) in the nervous system or the spine that impedes the normal adaptations of the body during pregnancy. It is important that your body functions at its highest level during pregnancy. Pre-existing, unnoticed imbalances causes your spine and pelvis to become overtaxed during these times. These added stresses lead to discomfort and difficulty while performing routine, daily activities.

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can relieve the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy and can help your nervous system work at optimum efficiency during this important time. Specific adjustments eliminate these stresses in the spine and restore balance to your pelvis and to the ligaments attached to your uterus. There are 8 ligaments attached to your uterus that can cause uterine constraint on the baby. This can cause long labors and breech presentations. This problem is one of the main reasons why women need a C-section.

Dr. Langille is trained and experienced in performing a gentle, non-invasive procedure called the Webster Breech Turning Technique, which is 85% effective in turning the baby into a normal head down position. The main goal of the procedure is to reduce excess uterine constraint, so that the baby can comfortably move around in the womb. It uses gentle chiropractic adjustments and mild pressure on specific areas to release constraint. Midwives and doulas that incorporate this technique have been found to have the lowest C-section rates among all other midwives and doulas.
